On August 26, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced the 2026 project evaluation results. The Young Scientists Fund project Research on Polignac-Type Problems and Related Number Theory Problems submitted by Dr. Xu Jizhen from the Basic Teaching Department of NJCIT was successfully approved. This is the first NSFC project NJCIT has obtained as the supporting institution in three years.
Polignac's conjecture is an important conjecture in number theory concerning the distribution of prime numbers. It is closely related to the twin prime conjecture and is a hotspot on the international frontier of mathematics. Dr. Xu Jizhen has long been deeply engaged in frontline teaching and research. The approval of this project is a concentrated reflection of his solid academic accumulation and relentless exploration.
NSFC projects are among the highest-level research projects in the field of basic research in China. The approval of this project signifies a steady enhancement of NJCIT’s basic research capacity and also highlights the positive results of NJCIT’s ongoing efforts to optimize its research ecosystem. NJCIT will take this project approval as an opportunity to increase support for high-level research projects, encourage more teachers to engage in frontier scientific exploration, strive to achieve landmark results in more fields, and contribute Nanxin’s strength to serving national strategic needs and regional economic and social development.
