On August 26, the Jiangsu Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Planning Office announced the list of approved 2026 Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund annual projects. The project A Study on Body Markers in the Tongtai Dialect Based on Historical Layer Analysis declared by Li Luyao, a teacher at NJCIT's School of Marxism, has been successfully approved.

The Tongtai dialect is spoken in more than ten cities and counties such as Nantong, Rugao, Hai’an, Dafeng, and Taizhou in Jiangsu Province, located in the border area between Mandarin and non-Mandarin Chinese dialects in our country, and its unique linguistic profile has long attracted academic attention. The approved project innovatively extends historical layer analysis from the phonological level to the grammatical level, and is expected to offer new methods and perspectives for studies on Chinese tense-aspect and on the grammatical history of regional dialects.

As one of the high-level research projects in the field of humanities and social sciences in China, the Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund sets its topic orientation in close alignment with national strategies and the needs of regional cultural development. This project approval is a recognition of Teacher Li’s long-term academic accumulation and frontier exploration. The School of Marxism will take this project as an opportunity to encourage teachers to integrate their own scientific research development with fine traditional Chinese culture, provide theoretical support for safeguarding the cultural roots of the nation, and contribute to serving national cultural inheritance and innovation.
